Irembo is a technology company that designs and develops digital products to ease the accessibility of services in users’ everyday lives worldwide, starting with Rwanda. Our pioneer product, IremboGov, has enabled Rwandan citizens and foreigners to access over 100 public services online through a one-stop-shop platform. Project Title: Enhancing Data-Driven Decision Making

The responsibilities and activities of the Data Analytics unit are regrouped into five main categories:

  • Collect, organize, and manage business data and make this data available for analysis, visualization, and reporting.

  • Provide clear and actionable insights on Irembo’s solutions and solutions leveraging data analytics and business intelligence.

  • Leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to build predictive models and anticipate the performance of Irembo’s solutions and products.

  • Develop, document, and implement procedures for effective data management.

  • Contribute to a strategic and data-driven approach to decision-making across the organization.

Project Description

Reporting to the Head of Data Analytics, the Data Analyst Intern will work on our advanced analytics initiatives. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in extracting actionable insights from large and complex datasets, driving data-driven decision-making, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our data strategies. You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and actively participate in shaping the future direction of our data analytics capabilities.

Scope of Work

Collect, organize, and manage business data and make this data available for analysis, visualization, and reporting.

  • Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets for analysis and modeling.

  • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure data quality and accessibility.

  • Use various analytical tools to detect data sets' patterns, trends, and relationships.

  • Develop statistical and predictive models to run against the data sets.

  • Build queries and execute business logic algorithms to prepare data in a suitable format for visualization.

Provide clear and actionable insights on Irembo’s solutions and solutions leveraging data analytics and business intelligence.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements.

  • Transform business requirements into coherent query algorithms.

  • Understand and transform our data to drive value for our clients.

  • Provide clear and actionable insights on Irembo’s solutions and products to the business and our partners through data analytics and business intelligence.

  • Develop, automate, compile, and prepare reports and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders to communicate findings.

Develop, document, and implement procedures for effective data management.

  • Document established processes and key pieces of work to facilitate collaboration within and across teams.

  • Organize business data analysis tasks in a straightforward, self-explanatory process.

  • Monitor and evaluate information and data systems that could affect analytical results.

Required Skills:

Educational Background  & Experience

  • You hold a degree in computer science (with a focus on data science/data engineering), mathematics, statistics, or a related field from a top-tier Rwandan or international institution.

  • You have some experience in data science, data engineering, business intelligence, or a related field.

Technical skills

  • You are comfortable with data wrangling / data cleaning, and you can clean and pre-process data.

  • You have experience in related SQL / no SQL / ETL processes.

  • You are familiar with databases and scripting languages (eg: SQL, R/Python, Metabase, Apache Superset, Redash…).

  • You are familiar with visualization tools (e.g: Power BI, Tableau, Metabase, Apache Superset…).

  • You understand ETL/ELT tools and processes (e.g: SSIS, DBT, Airbyte, Apache Airflow…)

  • You are familiar with data warehousing tools (e.g: ClickHouse, Apache Doris…)

  • You are interested in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

Soft Skills

  • Analytical thinking: Ability to think critically and analytically to draw insights from data.

  • Attention to detail: Precision and attention to detail to ensure analysis accuracy.

  • Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical data insights to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

  • Problem-solving: Ability to approach problems systematically and find data-driven solutions.

  • Time management: Skills in managing time efficiently, especially when working with deadlines and multiple projects.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work well with others to achieve objectives.

Key Deliverables

The deliverables will be discussed between the intern and their manager when they join based on their skills, preferences, and current needs for Irembo.

These deliverables will at least include:

  • Documenting at least one process from end to end

  • Providing insights on services’ application

  • Owning at least one project from end to end

  • Developing, automating, and launching at least one dashboard
