Project Title: Operation Excellence

Operational Excellence: Establishing a 24/7/365 Network Operations Center

The project aims to establish a robust Network Operations Center (NOC) operating 24/7/365, responsible for continuous monitoring, management, and maintenance of our systems and infrastructure. With Irembo's expanding digital operations, a dedicated NOC is essential to ensure service reliability and availability. The initiative seeks to proactively identify and resolve issues to minimize downtime and enhance incident response times. It will reinforce our commitment to deliver uninterrupted service.

Project Description

To meet the growing demand for Irembo services, it's crucial to enhance our capabilities for maintaining high-performing systems. Establishing a 24/7/365 NOC with designated teams and processes ensures uninterrupted service through continuous monitoring, swift incident response, and proactive maintenance.

The NOC intern will support our 24/7/365 operations by assisting in resolving incidents, monitoring service performance, and proposing process improvements.

This role presents an opportunity for the intern to gain valuable insights and apply industry best practices in the dynamic field of NOC operations, thereby making significant contributions to the team's excellence.

Scope of Work

The NOC intern tasks will cover all aspects of software system and hardware infrastructure monitoring, incident management, and operations optimization.

What you will do:

  • Monitor software, databases, networks and hardware infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and availability.

  • Contribute in the selection and implementation of monitoring tools and observability systems, to enhance visibility and control over our systems.

  • Collect initial information and perform basic analysis and/or troubleshooting regarding system issues before assigning and escalating them to relevant teams.

  • Participate in incident response efforts within the NOC, ensuring timely resolution of network, system, and application incidents.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the company's software systems, architecture, and infrastructure.

  • Propose changes and/or improvements to the processes and procedures to improve operational efficiency.

  • Provide system availability and performance reports and ensure accurate documentation.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to prioritize and address incidents and problems in a timely and effective manner.

Required skills:

  • Completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Understanding of networking concepts and protocols.

  • Knowledge of security principles.

  • Basic understanding of monitoring tools and incident response processes.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate effectively.

  • Basic scripting or programming skills (JavaScript) are beneficial.

  • Basic knowledge of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) practices is a plus.

As a member of the NOC team contributing to this project, the main role is to ensure the seamless operation and performance of Irembo’s software systems and hardware infrastructure. 

The desired key outcomes are:

  • Improving platforms, databases, networks, and hardware uptime and reliability to 99.99%.

  • Enhancing visibility and control over our system's environment.

  • Proposing tailor-made and data-driven solutions to other internal teams.

  • Ensuring efficient NOC operations by enforcing adherence to processes and procedures within the team.
