II. Organizational Context and Scope

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners.  IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.  It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Head of PSU and in close coordination with Head of Programme and Programme Managers, the Monitoring, Evaluation and Research Intern will support the design and implementation of monitoring, evaluation and research activities.

III. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supporting the implementation of M&E activities in the Country Office, by: 

  1. Assist in the Designing of an M&E strategy and workplan under the guidance of the Head of PSU and in close coordination with the Head of Programmes. 
  2. Regularly reviewing the country-level M&E workplan, tracking progress, and providing updates to the Head of PSU and Head of Programmes. 
  3. Assisting in the design of project level M&E plans and contributing to the development of project proposals by designing and reviewing project results matrices / logrames and M&E sections in proposals.
  4. Assisting the Head of PSU in responding to institutional data requests, such as the Institutional Questionnaire. 
  5. Conducting data verification exercises, providing technical guidance to the Head of PSU for correct data collection, and making necessary corrections in relevant data sources such as MiMOSA or KoBo exports. 
  6. Assisting program teams in data collection and providing narratives on M&E activities to the Head of PSU and/or Reporting Officers promptly. 
  7. Contributing to survey design, administration and analysis processes, including questionnaire coding in the KoBo platform, enumerator oversight, data cleaning, data merging and statistical analysis.
  8. Contributing to the planning, organization and delivery of trainings, workshops and other events related to M&E and research activities.
  9. Contributing to the development of M&E guidance and SOPs relevant to M&E and research activities as required. 
    • Support the implementation of research activities, by: 
  10. Contributing to  research assignments, including following up on  deliverables and the preparation of data and analytical inputs for service providers/consultants. 
  11. Contributing to the development and dissemination of research initiatives, including the drafting of concept notes, research plans, research reports, presentation and briefs. 
  12. Providing external entities, including independent evaluators, with accurate data and narrative inputs ensuring the correct representation of programme activities and results.
  13. Performing other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Completed or final year of enrolment in a bachelor’s degree programme in the fields of social sciences, migration studies, econometrics, statistics, or related fields with at least two years of professional experience, (work on university campus in research function.)
  • Experience in supporting the management multi-country monitoring processes.
  • Proven track record of participation in applied research initiatives and having authored reports.
  • Having published an article on a peer-reviewed journal is an advantage.

SKILLS

  • Very good writing skills
  • Ability to consolidate information from multiple sources and clearly present analytical results.
  • Strong written and oral communication, organizational and interpersonal relationship skills, with ability to formulate instructions and guidance in a concise and clear manner.
  • Excellent command of MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of the ODK platforms, specifically KoBo (or willingness to learn)
  • Experience with survey design, data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of statistical software and ability to perform descriptive/inferential data analysis.
  • Knowledge of data visualization and business intelligence software (PowerBi, Tableau, etc.) would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of relational databases, especially SQL, is an advantage.
