Community Health Boosters (CHB) is a pioneering youth-led organization dedicated to creating digital health technologies and youth-friendly learning tools that empower young individuals, amplify their voices, and enhance their opportunities. Founded in 2019 at the University of Rwanda, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, CHB collaborates with young people to co-create inclusive digital solutions, low-tech games, magazines, and services that enrich their lives. Our Human-Centered Design approach fosters an environment where the ideas of young people can flourish into reality – where informed young people actively address issues affecting their lives.

CHB is inviting highly motivated individuals to join our team as a Finance Assistant Intern. Based at our Head Office in Kigali, this internship offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to our mission of empowering youth and enhancing community health.

Job Summary:
Finance Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day finance and accounting functions of CHB. This role involves ensuring proper documentation, timely preparation of payment vouchers, dispatching cheques to staff/vendors, submitting accurate accountabilities, and adhering to CHB policies and procedures. Additionally, the position requires close collaboration with the accounting firm to track and liquidate partner advances, staff, and travel advances for month-end reports.

Reports to: Finance Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and adhere to CHB finance policies and procedures.
  • Receive and review all financial documents.
  • Prepare requisition forms, payment vouchers, and supporting documents.
  • Ensure all vouchers are approved by the respective authorities.
  • Submit accountabilities in accordance with CHB policy & procedures.
  • Maintain a proper filing system for all financial documents.
  • Record all disbursements and receipts transactions in the accounting records.
  • Prepare support documents for periodic reports.
  • Submit weekly cash receipt reports.
  • Ensure compliance with CHB policies/procedures and Donor requirements.
  • Administer petty cash and maintain adherence to financial standards.
  • Manage office safe, securely locking in important documents and petty cash.
  • Participate in annual budget development and management.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Education and Experience:

  • University degree in Finance or Accounting; part qualification of any professional course ACCA, CPA, CAT, is an added advantage.
  • Fresh graduate or awaiting graduation.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of donor financial/accounting procedures, IFRS, budget monitoring & auditing.
  • Proficiency in Excel spreadsheets, MS Word, and experience with accounting software.

Communication Abilities:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial documents. Proficient in report writing and effective communication.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and reconcile accounts.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ethical and confidential handling of finance and HR information.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • IT literacy and proficiency with accounting packages.
  • Proactive attitude and strong initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
