Terms of Reference for Hiring 1 M&E Intern
Background
Action Aid Rwanda (AAR), an associate of Action Aid International (AAI) Global federation, it is an anti-poverty agency working with the poor. The organisation has been working in Rwanda as a full Country Programme since 1997 to contribute towards eradication of poverty and injustices with a focus on tackling the root causes of poverty. Action Aid Rwanda implements several activities in the areas of Agroecology and Women Rights in 7 Local Right Programs (LRPs) namely Nyanza, Gisagara, Ruheru, Murundi, Gitesi, Muko and Shingiro LRPs.
Monitoring & Evaluation of programme’s intervention is key in ensuring quality and learning for effective programming. The main functions of the unit include conducting regular monitoring of activities for quality and compliance to Actionaid principles (HRBA, TOC, ALPS), carrying out periodical evaluation of AAR interventions’ impact, overseeing and coordinating periodical global/national planning & reporting for AAR, ensuring documentation, learning and sharing of best practices and achievements, managing AAR M&E MIS and develop data collection tools, providing support in fundraising and in the management of projects within AAR, and lastly providing assistance and capacity building on M&E to both AAR staff and partners.
Objective for the M&E Interns
The objective of having an M&E intern to enable proper M&E data chain from local to the national level. Specifically, the intern will support the programmes unit in regular field data collection processes (including data entry and analysis) especially using the current developed Management Information System (MIS), they will be responsible of the gathering of inputs/outputs being invested and achieved by interventions supported by AAR.
The interns will work closely with the Program Quality Learning and Accountability Coordinator, LRP coordinators and partner organizations and will benefit from ActionAid’s range of programming work including understanding of the organisation M&E principles. The Interns will be given opportunities to learn new skills and broaden their knowledge in the area of Programming and M&E.
Expected tasks & deliverables
- Prepare LRP level detailed M&E activities’ calendar.
- Support in data collection, analysis and feeding in MIS from LRP to central levels.
- Undertake regular field visits to support implementation and to identify adaptations needed.
- Contribute to the preparation of annual and quarterly work plans and reports.
- To ensure documentation, learning and sharing of best practices, achievements & success stories
- Provide administrative and technical programme support to AAR Quality Coordination
Duration & Location of the internship
The ideal candidate will work for six months with a possibility of extension based on satisfaction of the work done. Intern will be based at AAR Headquarters. Placement will be competition based and the intern are responsible for their own living expenses including Housing & others. AAR shall provide a monthly stipend and other logistical facilities for carrying out work duties only when traveling to field.

Expected skills & qualities
The interns should at least hold Bachelor’s Degree in fields of Statistics, Economics or Agriculture, they should be able to fluently speak and write English and Kinyarwanda, French is a plus. They should be computer literate and having their own computer available to use in their time of service in AAR.
NB: At the end of the internship, the internee is expected to write an internship report and submit a copy to The Programme Quality Learning and Accountability Coordinator
