A data, research, and analytics company with a focus on difficult development problems is called Laterite. We collaborate with universities, international NGOs, multilateral donor organizations, international think tanks, and government departments and agencies. For instance, the World Bank, USAID, TechnoServe, Promundo, the Mastercard Foundation, and other UN organizations are among our clients.

The Netherlands, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone are the current countries where we operate offices. The team includes more than 80 full-time local and foreign employees as well as more than 1,000 enumerators from other nations. We are happy to accept applications from groups who are currently underrepresented on our team because we take pride in becoming a diverse organization. Visit www.laterite.com to learn more.
We participate in research projects on socioeconomic development. Impact, in our opinion, is a long-term endeavor that necessitates being integrated into the local environment. Building local teams and data gathering mechanisms, being familiar with the nation, and developing tight working ties are all necessary for delivering high-quality research.

Creating a collaborative and fulfilling work environment for our staff members where each team member feels engaged, represented, and heard is one of Laterite's core strategic aims. The staff at Laterite is dedicated to providing chances for learning and professional growth throughout our operations.
As an equal opportunity employer, Laterite is committed to fostering a diverse workplace. Without regard to a candidate's race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, handicap, age, or veteran status, all qualified candidates will be given consideration for employment.

What you will do:

At Laterite, we frequently work on several short- to medium-term research projects at once. You will be allocated to one of these projects as a Data Quality Intern working out of our Kigali office, giving you the chance to put the skills and techniques you learned in school into practice.

You will contribute to one (or more) of Laterite's initiatives for data gathering, analysis, or program assessment. This could involve carrying out or supporting:

  • Using SurveyCTO, code surveys
  • Incoming data for quality control monitoring
  • STATA which is used to clean data.

Your line manager will coach you throughout the internship and assist you with the onboarding process.

What you'll be bringing:

Our ideal applicant is a recent grad or a bachelor's degree student in their final year.

Requirements:

  • A finished or active (last year) bachelor's degree in statistics, data science, applied economics, or a similar discipline
  • Basic Stata proficiency
  • Excellent English communication abilities, both written and spoken

We also warmly welcome:

  • Working knowledge of at least one ODK-based platform, including SurveyCTO, ODK, and COMM Care
  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational abilities, as well as the ambition and will to succeed in a fast-paced setting where deadlines are frequently unpredictable
  • knowledge of Python or R

What do you stand to gain?

This chance is being provided as a paid internship. A monthly stipend of RWF 330,000 will be given to the intern.

The selection of dates is up to Laterite and successful applicants. We anticipate the interns working with us for a minimum of three months.

Next, what?

1. Evaluation of literacy and numeracy

The first stage is to finish a 30-minute literacy and numeracy testing, which doesn't require any specific training.

Visit this form to access the evaluation: https://form.jotform.com/230823400475550

2. Fill out an application

After that, successful applicants will be given the opportunity to submit their CV and cover letter through our online application system.
3. Technical evaluation

Candidates invited to take two technical tests must meet the minimal standards. The first evaluation is designed to gauge your ability to process a dataset, as well as your ability to write code that is proficient, efficient, and repeatable, and to clearly articulate every step you take when processing data. In order to program a survey from a "paper" version to an excel form that can be submitted to Laterite's SurveyCTO server and utilized for offline data collection by our team of enumerators in the field, we employed a SurveyCTO template for the second assessment.

4. Interviews

The chosen candidates will then be contacted for a preliminary interview. There will be two rounds of interviews during the interview stage.
Deadline

The deadline for applications is April 23, 2023.
