MANAGER, LITIGATION AND RECOVERY SUPPORT
The job holder is responsible for providing and monitoring eective legal services in managing legal risk for the Bank regarding Litigation management, dispute resolution and including but not limited to eective due diligence, advisory services, documentation, and other general legal services guided by the Bank’s policy and existing laws. The job holder may represent the department at other stakeholders’ engagements and in courts of law, as may be assigned.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Managing all the litigations initiated for or against the bank through court proceedings, and other administrative organs such as the Labor inspector.
- Determining the lawyer/law rm to handle a bank case, in consultation with the Head of Legal or designate, ensuring timely submission of cases and supporting documents/evidence to lawyers and supporting them to adequately understand assigned cases for eective representation of the bank in Courts of Law.
- Instruct, evaluate, and report on the performance of the Legal service providers including external legal service providers including external counsels, professional bailis, external debt collectors, and advising on their performance during contract renewals or termination.
- Attending court hearing for eective follow-up of court cases and advise on eective representation of the bank.
- Following up and advising on any other litigation and recovery related matters involving the bank.
- Ensuring that all contracts with external lawyers and external debts collectors are up to date and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Preparing, reviewing, and amending contracts, where necessary, to assist and support debt recovery and ensure proper custody of client’s contracts in the bank.
- Provide cost eective and timely legal advisory services to all units and Management including advice on emerging legal risk trends, genesis of legal liability and recommendation of mitigation strategies.
- Maintain safe custody of all relevant documentation, correspondences and ensure safe custody thereof under adequate risk management procedures.
- In collaboration with the Head of Legal, evaluate, and report on the performance of the Legal service providers including external Counsel, professional baili, and external debt collectors.
- Supervising administration activities related to litigations, written o recoveries, enforcement requests, summons to the bank and bank ocials etc.
- Prepare reports for the function on all assignments, particularly litigation management and written of recoveries.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by Supervisor from time to time.
Qualification, Experience, Skills, and Attributes
- A Master of Laws Degree from a recognized institution with 2 years of experience or a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience working in the legal eld.
- Post Graduate Diploma in legal practice from the Institute of Legal Practice & Development or such other institution recognized in the Republic of Rwanda.
- At least 4 years of post-qualication experience in a nancial institution in a similar/related role.

- Thorough understanding of Rwandan Laws, Regulations, and decisions aecting Financial Institutions and Company business
- Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management and dispute resolution skills
