Rutongo Mines Ltd is a Tin Mining Company, situated in Masoro Sector, Rulindo District, Northern Province. The Management of Rutongo Mines Ltd informs the public that it is recruiting Internal and External Competent, Qualified and Experienced staff for the following positions:
- Position/Job Title : Construction Technician
- Grade : B3
- Department : Engineering & Projects
- Reports to : Construction Supervisor
Job Brief: The Construction Technician is responsible for executing construction and building projects within mining sites. This role involves working on various structures and facilities critical to mining operations, ensuring that all construction work is completed safely, on time, and to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Implementation:
- Execute construction projects as planned, including the construction of infrastructure, facilities, and other structures.
- Follow blueprints, plans, and project specifications to ensure construction accuracy and quality.
Material and Equipment Management:
- Determine and requisition the necessary construction equipment, tools, and materials required to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Prepare materials and tools for use, ensuring they are available and in good working condition before construction begins.
Construction Works:
- Perform a variety of construction tasks, including bricklaying, plastering, concrete work, tiling, and painting, to construct and maintain mining facilities and infrastructure.
- Assist in the erection of temporary structures such as scaffolding, barricades, and formwork as needed.
Maintenance and Renovation:
- Maintain and renovate company houses, office buildings, workshops, and other facilities to ensure they meet operational standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of existing structures and carry out repairs or renovations as required.
Team Coordination and Supervision:
- Coordinate the activities of Construction Assistants and subcontractors, ensuring that all tasks are completed as per the project plan and schedule.
- Provide guidance and supervision to junior team members, ensuring adherence to construction safety protocols and quality standards.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all construction work is performed in compliance with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments to promote a safe working environment.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, work completed, and any issues encountered during construction.
- Report progress and any challenges to the Construction Supervisor, ensuring timely communication and problem resolution.
Continuous Improvement:
- Suggest and implement improvements in construction practices, techniques, and safety measures to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Stay updated on new construction methods, materials, and technologies relevant to mining operations.
Ad-hoc Duties:
- Perform other duties as required by management, within the scope of the role.
Job Requirements:
- Education and Certification:
- A minimum of a Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Certificate Level III in Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Additional certifications in specialized construction techniques or safety management are advantageous.
- Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience in construction. A focus on industrial or mining environments is a plus.
- Proven experience in performing various construction tasks, including bricklaying, concrete work, and facility maintenance.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in the use of construction tools, equipment, and materials, including hand and power tools.
- Strong knowledge of construction standards, safety regulations, and best practices in a mining context.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to coordinate and lead construction teams.
- High level of professionalism, dedication, and a strong work ethic.
- Physical Requirements:
- Physically fit to perform construction tasks, including lifting heavy materials, working at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work in various environmental conditions, including extreme weather and remote mining locations.
- Other:
- Willingness to work overtime, shifts, and be on-call for emergency repairs or construction work as required.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with the latest construction practices and technologies.
