Job Description
Title : Deputy Greenkeeper
Reports to : Greenkeeper
Education level : A0 in Agronomy, horticulture, or plant science preferred, or similar knowledge, maybe including turfgrass management science.
Kigali Golf Resort & Villas' clubhouse is undergoing improvements to become one of the continent's top facilities. The clubhouse will eventually include a health club, tennis and squash courts, a swimming pool, and seven shops.
The deputy greenkeeper directs and takes part in the development and upkeep of the golf course under the general direction of the greenkeeper. oversees the use, upkeep, and repair of mechanical and motorized equipment, as well as any related duties as needed.
Specific Responsibilities - include but are not limited to:
- helps with the organization, scheduling, and oversight of the building and upkeep of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and related facilities.
- Instructs equipment operators in the safe, effective use and maintenance of mowers and other equipment. Oversees repair and maintenance of all mechanical and motorized equipment utilized on the golf course.
- oversees and takes part in the drainage and irrigation systems' operation and upkeep.
- checks the golf course for any issues and informs the greenkeeper of any found issues.
- oversees particular initiatives.
- keeps equipment and records for the weather and microenvironments.
Knowledge, Skills and Traits
- Agronomy, horticulture, or plant science bachelor's degree preferred, or similar knowledge, maybe including turfgrass management science.
- Licensed or certified in the use of pesticides,
- knowledge of and familiarity with the game of golf.
- Working understanding of the building techniques, turf establishment techniques, and cultural customs used on putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers on golf courses
- Golf course turfgrass planting and maintenance
- decorative tree, shrub, and plant planting, maintenance, and pruning
- using soil conditioners and fertilizers correctly
- Pest detection and eradication techniques, including materials
- drainage techniques
- Irrigation techniques and systems
- Procedures and practices for equipment operation, maintenance, and minor repairs
- Ability to schedule and manage work to obtain the most effective utilization of staff and equipment using computer programs and computer operations
- communicate clearly with all team members and golfing customers.
