Purpose of the position 

The CDAT project will be supported by the civil engineer during execution. Through the application, approval, and implementation of all projects supported by matching grants, he will assure the compliance of all technical aspects. Additionally, he will help the technical departments technically, especially in regards to compliance of technical concerns.

Main Responsibilities 

  • The following are only a few examples of the main duties. The Civil Engineer will be directly responsible to the BDF Fund Manager for the following tasks: 
  • Ensure technical compliance and quality control for all work related to primary production (tractors, power tillers, and their implements; greenhouses, including screen houses, hydroponic systems, and aeroponic systems; spraying pumps, planters, and harvesters); post-harvest handling and storage.
  • interventions (post-harvest handling structures; storage structures; post-harvest apparatus; and packing apparatus); procurement of new machinery and equipment for processing and value addition (construction and processing equipment);
  • arranging and working alone on tasks that need judgment in the assessment, choice, use, and modification of engineering techniques and methods;
  • Before beginning to execute the works for various components of the engineering activities supported by the CDAT award, analyze the works along with their associated BOQs and provide input;
  • Analyze and make changes to specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs, and check work for adherence to statutory requirements, accepted engineering practices, and applicable codes;
  • completing fieldwork tasks such as measuring the project area and recording measurements and field conditions;
  • technical document organization, drafting, and coordination;
  • Performing a technical evaluation by calculating the beneficiary's contribution to the infrastructures provided.
  • Create and implement emergency plans to satisfy service requirements;
  • When necessary and at the request of the superior, oversee all construction projects supported by CDAT grant-funded projects during the length of his or her contract.
  • any additional tasks that supervisors request. 

Contract duration 

  • The two-year contract duration is extendable with satisfaction.

Qualification and professional experience 

Qualification and professional experience 

  • Bachelor's degree at the very least in civil engineering, a master's degree in construction management, or an equivalent certification related to construction.
  • IER (Institute of Engineers Rwanda) membership.
  • Construction management expertise in the field of post-harvest infrastructures and at least five years of relevant professional work experience are both advantages.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the creation and analysis of work plans, complex project reports;
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
  • Advanced analytical abilities, solid decision-making, resourcefulness, the capability to act independently and in a multi-cultural context, and the competence to foster a team-based, participative work environment;
  • Strong communication and bargaining skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Internet Explorer;
  • It's necessary to have a solid understanding of CAD software to produce designs;
  • Excellent grasp of both English and Kinyarwanda in writing and speaking. French language proficiency is advantageous.
