Title: Research and Documentation Officer
Background and Introduction
A capable and seasoned Research and Documentation Officer is needed by HISP Ltd. to join our team. In Rwanda and other nations where HISP Rwanda operates, the Research and Documentation Officer will play a critical role in conducting research, compiling findings, and adding to our organization's body of knowledge. People with a solid experience in research, exceptional writing abilities, and a track record of publishing research articles are required for this role.

Key Responsibilities:
The following duties will be the responsibility of the research and documentation officer:
Writing and Submitting Research Proposals:
The research and documentation assistant will be in charge of doing searches, using the material at hand, and creating various forms of research proposals, including the following:

Solicited Proposals: These applications are made in response to particular financial opportunities or requests for applications (RFAs) issued by institutions, organizations, or funding agencies

Unsolicited Proposals: Without an explicit invitation or request from a funding agency or institution, these proposals will be created. The researcher will choose an issue or opportunity for research that falls within our purview, then work independently to create an application for financing.
- Pre-proposals or Concept Papers: Some funding organizations or agencies demand that researchers first submit a quick pre-proposal or idea paper. These documents give the funding agency a summary of the research concept, goals, and prospective outcomes, enabling them to decide whether to move forward with the full proposal.
- Continuation or Renewal Proposals: The researcher will submit these ideas in the event that we have financing for a study and need more money to carry out or expand the research. The results, progress, and future goals of the ongoing research are updated via continuation proposals.
- Collaborative Proposals: This will be relevant if we work on a project with other research organizations; in that case, we might submit joint bids. These proposals will detail each collaborator's roles and responsibilities, the research strategy, and the anticipated results.
- Program or Project Proposals: These applications seek funding for a research project or program that has numerous goals, timetables, and research activities. Program goals, objectives, and individual research projects are usually described in program proposal format.
- Conference Proposals: The researcher will work with others and make it easier for proposals to present research findings at conferences or academic gatherings to be submitted.
Conducting Research:
- DHIS2-related implementations are the main subject of research studies that are planned, designed, and carried out on health information systems and data use in general.
- Utilize the proper research methodology and approaches for gathering and analyzing data.
- Create research approaches and frameworks for various projects.
- Work together with team members to determine research opportunities and gaps.
Documentation and Report Writing:
- Create excellent research papers, technical summaries, and project documents.
- Ensure that all written materials are accurate, concise, and coherent.
- Compile and arrange data and research findings in a methodical way.
- Create presentations and study summaries for different stakeholders.
Publication and Dissémination:
- Choose appropriate research journals, conferences, and publishing venues.
- Prepare publications for submission and oversee the submission procedure for manuscripts
- Work together to disseminate research results with internal and external stakeholders, such as other HISP Nodes.
- Keep an extensive collection of references for research articles.
Coordination and Collaboration:
- To support research projects, work closely with DHIS2 Implementers, Systems Users, System Administrators, and Developers.
- Work together with subject-matter specialists to confirm research results and guarantee quality.
- Attend pertinent gatherings, workshops, and conferences.
- program coordination and facilitation for HISP internships:
- Review and revise the current HISP internship concept note to satisfy the requirements for the internship on both sides.
- Identify projects and initiatives that require interns by working with the HISP team leads.
- To determine the essential credentials and requirements for the required interns with the HISP Team Lead
- Under the direction of your supervisor, coordinate the internship recruitment process.
- Ensure that all available interns are productive and, at the same time, fulfilling their internship expectations by working with the team leads.
- Identify each intern's job description with the HISP leadership, and ensure that all interns are evaluated before the program is closed.
- Gather input from each intern both while and before the internship is through, then present your supervisor with the combined comments and an action plan.
- Assure that the internship's duration and period are honored by working with the team head.
Qualifications and Experience:
- The following credentials and expertise are required for the post of Research and Documentation Officer at HISP Ltd.
Educational Background:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Public Health, Data Science, ICT, Statistics, Documentation, monitoring and evaluation. A Master's degree in these areas mentioned is preferred. Also a master’s degree in any other field with more than three years in research, with two or more publications and references.
Research Experience:
- Demonstrated expertise in designing studies, analyzing data, and conducting research investigations, preferably in the health sector, health informatics/digital health, public health, and project evaluation of digital health.
- A history of publishing at least two research papers with citations
- Understanding of quantitative and qualitative research techniques
Writing Skills:
- Excellent writing abilities with the capacity to write reports that are crystal clear, succinct, and well-organized in both English and French.
- Writing scientifically proficient and able to follow publication guidelines
- Excellent mastery of syntax, punctuation, and citation formats (such as APA and MLA)
Technical Knowledge:
- Proficiency with qualitative data analysis tools and statistical analysis software (such as SPSS and R).
- Understanding of reference management systems and research management software
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for productive teamwork
- The capacity to work both independently and collaboratively
- The capacity to meet deadlines and pay attention to detail
Languages
- Spoken and written English with ease;
- Fluency in French, both written and spoken, is highly sought;
