Call for application for pediatric fellowship scholaships under UR -MoH-ELMA program

I. Background
The University of Rwanda (UR) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) received funding from ELMA Foundation to implement a program for Pediatric Health Workforce Development in Rwanda. The program will support the implementation of the National Strategy for Health Professions Development 2020-2030 NSHPD). With this strategy, the Ministry of Health has set the goal to have 234 Pediatric physicians in the public sector by 2030. The program will specifically support pediatrics fellowships, pediatric nursing, neonatal nursing, and doctoral nursing practice for the next three years.
To achieve NSHPD targets, the program intends to fund qualified pediatricians to pursue pediatric fellowship training to sustain the pediatric workforce in Rwanda with the goal of improving quality healthcare. At the end of the training, the fellows will serve as academic team at the University of Rwanda to strengthen fellowship training in Rwanda and phasing out reliance on visiting faculty.
II. Call for application
We call for interested candidates to be trained in fully funded pediatric fellowships (see the specific fellowships in the table below). The training will be conducted out of the country in partner institutions. The tentative starting date will be carly 2024.

III. Funding
The scholarship will cover tuition fees, travel costs, living allowances, accommodation, research costs, congress/conference attendance and other related training cost.
IV. Application requirements
Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment in improving child and neonatal health in Rwanda and contribute to reduction of neonatal and child morbidity and mortality rates in Rwanda. The applicant must fulfil the following requirements for each of the fellowships:

1. Fellowship: Pediatric Emergencies/Critical Care

Candidates must have:

  • A primary qualification in Medicine (MD, MBBS or equivalent)
  • A specialty degree/certificate such as the Master of Medicine in Paediatrics and Child health
  • Having clinical experience in pediatrics in public institution will be an added value.

2. Fellowship: Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Pediatric Infectious Diseases

  • A primary qualification in Medicine MD, MBBS or equivalent)
  • A specialty degree/certificate such as the Master of Medicine in Paediatrics and Child health
  • Having clinical experience in pediatrics in public institution will be an added value.

3. Fellowship: Pediatric Endocrinology & Metabolic Diseases

  • A specialty degree/certificate such as the Master of Medicine in Paediatrics and Child health

4. Fellowship: Paediatric Neurology and Muscular Disorders

5. Fellowship: Paediatric Hematology & Oncology

6. Fellowship: Paediatric Nephrology

  • A primary qualification in Medicine (MD, MBBS or equivalent)
  • A specialty degree/certificate such as the Master of Medicine in Paediatrics and Child health
  • Having clinical experience in pediatrics in public institution will be an added value.

V. Application file
The applicants will submit the following documents:

  • An application letter addressed to the Director of the UR- Centre of Postgraduate Studie describing the motivation to join the program.
  • Certified copies of the degree certificates or valid/recognized attestation from a recognize higher education institution.
  • Two recommendation letters with at least one from academic referees who ar knowledgeable about the applicant.
  • A detailed curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Copy of ID.
  • Copy of employment letter
  • Copy of a licence to practice

N.B: All the above documents must be submitted as one scanned document.
VI. Selection methodology
Based on the received applications, the shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for an interview
