2025 COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

The Higher Education Council (HEC) wishes to inform the public that the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) has requested Rwanda to nominate 16 candidates for PhD study and 14 candidates for Master's study for scholarships tenable from September/October 2025.

The nomination does not in any way guarantee selection or placement by CSC. Details of the scholarships are available on CSC website:https://cscuk.fcdo.gov.uk/about-us/scholarships.

The applicants are requested to choose only one of the six (6) development themes:

  1. Science and Technology for Development,
  2. Strengthening Health Systems and Capacity,
  3. Promoting Global Prosperity,
  4. Strengthening Global Peace, Security and Governance,
  5. Strengthening Resilience and Response to Crises,
  6. Access, Inclusion and Opportunity.

Interested candidates should submit all of the following application documents:

  • Application letter addressed to the Director General of HEC clearly indicating the course applied for, admission status (admitted or not), University name (for admitted applicants), employer and position, and any other information to support the application.
  • Valid passport
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Employer recommendation letter
  • Original-notified Degree and transcripts for the previous level of education
  • Recommendation letters from the academic staff from the University where the candidate accomplished previous studies.

Please note:

  • The above mentioned application documents will be submitted online to HECMIS using the link : http://mis.hec.gov.rw/system-login.
  • Only the application with complete documents will be accepted.
  • Candidates applying for Masters should possess Bachelor's degree of at least 2nd Class Upper Division or equivalent in related fields, whereas PhD applicants should have 65%.
  • Candidates are requested to submit quality proposal describing the development impact in the home country. Submission of personal statement will give additional content.
  • The interested candidates are also requested to submit their application form via the CSC's online application system.
  • Only applicants who have submitted their application on both portal (CSC and HECMIS) will be reviewed.
  • The online application for both portal is from 11/09/2024 to 15/10/2024.
