IGCP operates in the three countries that share the habitat of the mountain gorillas; Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Uganda, and works in close partnership with the Protected Area Authorities of the three countries (Rwanda Development Board, RDB in Rwanda; Institute Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature, ICCN in DRC; Uganda Wildlife Authority, UWA in Uganda) and the umbrella mechanism for transboundary collaboration through the Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration (GVTC).
JOB SPECIFICATION
- Position: Finance Intern
- Duty Station: Musanze, Rwanda
- Contract type: Internship Contract
- Reports: Assistant Finance & Admin Officer
SUMMARY OF ROLE
The Finance Intern will report to Assistant Finance & Administrative Officerand will be based at the Musanze Office – Northern province - Rwanda with possibilities of travelling to Kigali or other places where IGCP Operates to ensuring internal structures and systems are consistent with IGCP Financial systems and reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Monitor transaction codes and track all invoices against POs issued; present them to Finance and Administration Officer and the Assistant Finance & Admin Officer for payment and make sure all invoices are properly filled after the payment
- Filing and maintain files of transactions processed with sufficient documentation for archive and audit purposes
- Assist Technical Staff to organize and pay training/workshop participants in the field
- Photocopying and archiving all supporting invoices, receipts, and Electronic Billing Machine receipts.
- Keep abreast of finance, accountancy and tax laws and regulations that apply to IGCP to ensure organizational compliance.
- Assist Technical Staff with travel advances and timely accountabilities
- Participate in month / quarter / year end account balance reconciliations.
- Maintain and filling Check Register as recommended by IGCP procedures.
- Support the finance team in any daily work available.
- Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Applicant must be a student or recent graduate in Business Administration (Finance, Accounting & Management), Economics, or related fields is required.
- Experience in related field is not relevant.
- Experience working in a busy Finance office in a reputable NGO or development agency would be an added asset
- Proficiency in computers skills including use of MS office and/or accounting packages is an added advantage.
- Excellent in both written and spoken English and French
Knowledge: (functional or technical)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple financial activities and set priorities
- Ability to communicate and to confidently engage with senior management
- Trustworthy with a track record of impeccable integrity
- Pays attention to detail
- Understanding of health programs and MoH core functions & systems
