Job Description
ACROSSAID is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that intervenes to advocate for quality education, child rights and protection, health and nutrition, and youth development in order to better the lives of children, young people, and their families.
Through the support of a reading and writing culture, AcrossAid's Educational Development Program strengthens children's language literacy and learning. The program aims to enhance student learning outcomes with an emphasis on young children's language acquisition. Additionally, it provides intervention for lower primary school students in both Kinyarwanda and English as well as for early grade pre-primary learners (Grades 1 through 3). It includes:
- Giving kids access to high-quality, age- and kid-friendly CBC (Competency-Based Curriculum)-based reading and learning resources, such as read-aloud and read-alone/leveled storybooks written in both English and Kinyarwanda;
- Providing children with rudimentary reading abilities in both Kinyarwanda and English with the goal of enabling them to be able to freely speak, read, and write fluently in both Kinyarwanda and English upon completion of their primary school;
- Through training and mentoring programs, providing instructors and reading mentors (Abafashamyumvire bo Gusoma) with professional development, reading instructions, and methodology.
To make sure that both kids and parents are actively participating in reading activities, AcrossAid works in both the community and in schools. In addition to promoting literacy, AcrossAid works to advance all facets of high-quality education for kids under the age of 18. This suggests that the emphasis on putting the aforementioned projects into action as a result of realizing its strategic goal.
In order to support the implementation of the AcrossAid Educational Program through the post of Language Educator, AcrossAid is looking to provide a highly committed, skilled, and competent intern a six-month professional internship opportunity.
Expected Intern Outcomes
The candidate is required to work closely with government officials, senior management, middle managers, line managers, other staff members, and program participants to develop, design, and implement programs as necessary in order to support the team. For the quick accomplishment of the project objectives, the intern will offer essential help to the field facilitation in various initiatives currently being conducted.
Basic Requirements
Since this is a paid internship, the candidate's profile needs to satisfy the following standards in order to be considered for the position:
- Possess a minimum Advanced Diploma (A1) in the arts, education, a language, linguistics, or an area closely related;
- Having a bachelor's degree (A0) in one of the aforementioned fields is advantageous;
- Have passed academic requirements at least recently—within the last year or two years;
- Working experience in the educational field is advantageous;
- Show that you have the skills necessary to work with schoolchildren, especially in the area of Early Childhood Development and Education (ECD&E) with a child care and support system;
- Show that you are fluent in both English and Kinyarwanda. French language proficiency is preferred;
- It is necessary to be fluent in the language of instruction, and understanding the current Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) of the REB will be advantageous;
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities should be displayed;
- Goal-oriented, laser-like, dynamic, fervent, and self-driven;
- High standards for professionalism and ethics.
