About the Apprenticeship

Structured 6-month apprenticeship to develop two graduates into all-in-one maintenance technicians covering plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work on WAR's INUMAT mingrid fleet. You train alongside our existing Regional Technicians (WAR currently operates a team of eight across the country toward the same Officer-level competencies they deliver every day.

Career path: During the apprenticeship you sit in the Maintenance department under the Maintenance Manager. On successful completion you transfer to the Operations department and report to a Regional Sales Manager — with the core mandate of daily minigrid functionality follow-up and driving downtime toward zero across your patch.

Who We're Looking For

  • Education: TVET diploma or certificate in Plumbing, Water Engineering, Building & Construction, Electrical Installation, or Mechanical Maintenance (RTB/WDA-recognised).
  • Experience: Recent graduate (0-1 year) or about-to-graduate within 3 months.
  • Trade Foundation: Practical exposure to at least one of plumbing, electrical, or mechanical maintenance.

Willingness to learn the other two disciplines.

  • Field Ready: 60%+ of your time will be outside Kigali.

Key Result Areas (mirrored from our current Regional Technician Officers)

  • Daily minigrid functionality tracking — Uptime dashboards, operator check-ins, early failure detection, downtime toward zero.
  • Plumbing maintenance & repair PVC/HDPE pipework, taps, valves, meter connections, leak diagnostics.
  • Electrical maintenance & repair — Solar arrays, control panels, pump wiring, low-voltage circuits, safe isolation.
  • Mechanical maintenance & repair — Pumps, motors, valves, seals, rotating equipment.
  • Field diagnostics — Cross-discipline fault-finding on live minigrids.
  • Preventive maintenance — WAR PM schedule on distribution networks, filter housings, pump-tank sub-systems.
  • Customer-facing conduct — You are the face of WAR when a tap fails.
  • Record-keeping & reporting Job cards, spare-parts logs, photo evidence, daily uptime feed.

Apprenticeship Terms (fixed — non-negotiable)

  • Duration: 6 months from start date
  • Monthly Stipend: RWF 150,000 net take-home / month
  • Other Benefits During Apprenticeship: None
  • Reports to (apprenticeship): Maintenance Manager (Maintenance department)
  • Reports to (on promotion): Regional Sales Manager (Operations department)

At Successful Completion

  • Promotion to Junior Regional Technician Officer (full package) - only for apprentices who consistently exceed expectations
  • If Performance Bar Not Met Apprentice not retained at end of 6 months
