BOUT SOLID’AFRICA

Operating in Rwanda since 2010, Solid’Africa is a pioneering social enterprise dedicated to combating nutrition insecurity in Rwanda and beyond. With a mission to ensure universal access to adequate and appropriate nutrition. Solid’Africa delivers a comprehensive nutrition access program that includes the Gemura Feeding Program, which supplies nutritious meals to hospital patients and school children; the Sustainable Agriculture Program, which supports local farmers and strengthens the food supply chain; and the Nutrition Education Program, which promotes healthy dietary choices through education and awareness.

Through its Community Benefit Company (CBC), Solid’Africa also generates income to subsidize its nonprofit initiatives, ensuring financial sustainability. Additionally, Solid’Africa’s Institute of Culinary Arts and Nutrition (ICAN) provides specialized training that blends nutrition science and culinary arts to empower hospitality professionals. By leveraging strategic collaborations, adopting a holistic Farm-to-Fork model, and focusing on sustainable practices, Solid’Africa aims to transform the nutrition landscape, making healthy meals universally accessible in the communities it serves.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Solid'Africa is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Chief Finance Officer (CFO). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, he/she will to oversee all financial aspects of the organization. The CFO will play a critical role in financial planning, budgeting, support fundraising for financial planning, and ensuring the efficient and effective use of financial resources to support Solid'Africa's mission and goals for NGO and CBC. He/she is required to provide financial leadership that balances fiscal responsibility with mission impact, ensuring every input (money) creates maximum social value. This role requires a hands-on leader who understands the unique dynamics of nonprofit finance and can deliver immediate impact while building scalable financial infrastructure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management

  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals while ensuring long-term sustainability.
  • Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Oversee diverse revenue streams including grants, donations, earned income, and endowment.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and other financial systems.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Chief Executive Officer, providing analysis and recommendations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and other reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, grant requirements, and donor restrictions.
  • Manage relationships with external partners, including funders, auditors, and other financial service providers.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with program managers and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets.
  • Lead annual budgeting process balancing programmatic needs with financial constraints.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the Chief Executive Officer or any other designated authority.
  • Implement cost allocation methodologies that accurately reflect program economics.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support long term financial planning and decision making.
  • Build dashboards showing cost per outcome and social return on investment.
  • Drive operational efficiency without compromising mission delivery
  • Perform risk management through analysis of organization liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure and fundraising initiatives.
  • Implement financial controls appropriate for nonprofit environment.

Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Work closely with the CEO and senior leaders to develop and implement strategic plans and goals that support the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, inculcating a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Actively support fundraising efforts through grant applications, donor engagement, and cultivating strategic partnerships to secure necessary funding for programs and initiatives.

CEO/Board Relations and Reporting

  • Report on the financial performance of the organization to the CEO and/or Board of Directors, including regular updates on budget performance, forecasts, and financial risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the CEO, and Board of Directors to develop and implement financial policies and procedures that align with the organization’s values and strategic goals.
  • Represent the organization at internal and external events and meetings, providing financial guidance and support as and when required.
  • Any other responsibility as assigned by your supervisor.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWELDGE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree or MBA in finance, accounting.
  • CPA or ACCA certified will be preferred, Masters in Nonprofit Management a plus
  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience with 5 at senior level position, preferably in nongovernment organization or private sector.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff to achieve organizational goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proven ability to translate financial data for non-financial audiences.
  • Strong values alignment and passion for social impact.
  • Collaborative leadership style with ability to influence.
  • Understanding of nonprofit tax regulations.
