Engineering Technician (Building Automated Systems)

The Embassy of the United States of America in Kigali is recruiting for Engineering Technician (Building Automated Systems) - (All Interested Applicants / All Sources).

The position is open to All Interested Candidates/All Sources and available to start immediately.

Duties: The Building Automated Systems Engineering Technician will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of computer and microprocessor controlled systems located throughout the embassy compound. This may include participation in a Reliability Centered Maintenance program. The job holder serves as an expert in planning, organizing, and maintaining large and complex mechanical and electrical systems and their control equipment. The incumbent performs skilled analysis and diagnostic maintenance work on all major systems and critical equipment throughout the embassy buildings and grounds. Work assignments will be directed by the Facility Manager.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

Selected candidate(s) will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
Selected candidate(s) must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Selected candidate(s) must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time [normally, two (2) weeks] upon receipt of agency authorization, clearances, and certifications or the candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:

Completion of a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent, in mechanical, electrical, or general engineering or in computerized systems, control, and sensor technology. Applicants must have proof of specialized technical training to match education requirements.

Qualifications:

Experience:

The completion of a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent, in mechanical, electrical, or general engineering or in computerized systems, control, and sensor technology.
Five (5) years’ field experience in the operation and maintenance of a building automation system, including computer and microprocessor control system installation and programming. The experience may have been gained as a result of performing general maintenance on computer-controlled systems and equipment; however, at least two (2) years must have been spent in direct maintenance of BAS-specific components and three (3) years’ of experience with large, modern, commercial, or government office building operations and maintenance.
Experience working with U.S. building, trade, construction, fire, and safety codes and standards is required.

Languages:

Fluency (written/speaking/reading) in English and Kinyarwanda is required.

Job Knowledge:

Possess superior knowledge, exceptional technical skills, and a thorough understanding of building automation systems and their components, including sensors and actuators.
Able to adjust system settings and components to maintain building operations within designed parameters.
Able to interpret sensor readings as well as fault and failure codes in order to diagnose issues and expedite repairs.
Be familiar with the operating parameters of specific building spaces and the systems that support each space, ensuring that critical operations are not disrupted during maintenance and repair activities.

Have knowledge of local companies capable of providing material or service support for systems within the area of responsibility.

Possess detailed technical knowledge of the control systems within the assigned area of responsibility and a basic understanding of how these control systems interface with operating systems.

Have a working knowledge of AutoCAD and be able to use it effectively to develop and modify building drawings.

Skills And Abilities:

Have strong computer skills and be able to navigate the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) to create various documents, including reports, spreadsheets, cost estimates, inspection logs, and utility consumption charts and graphs.
Able to write clear emails and conduct online research as needed.
Be proficient in AutoCAD and capable of creating accurate, usable engineering drawings to support operations and maintenance activities or to assist with renovation projects.
Have excellent interpersonal skills.
Able to handle a large workload and multiple tasks simultaneously.
Be highly organized.
Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
