Since Kepler’s launch in 2013, we are building a model of accessible and quality higher education. We provide a different kind of education – one that combines in-person, online and on-the-job learning in service of a singular goal: decent jobs for young Africans. And we have been successful, with more than 90% of scholars employed within six months of graduating. Kepler, through a partnership with Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), has enrolled more than 1,000 students across our campuses in Rwanda (Kigali and the Kiziba refugee camp in Western Rwanda).
We have entered into a dynamic time at Kepler. Since 2022, Kepler has been locally accredited in Rwanda through Kepler College and we are expanding our academic offerings and programs in Rwanda and Ethiopia.
About This Role
The Finance Fellow will support the finance team in ensuring smooth financial operations and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements. The role involves processing vendor and staff payments, maintaining accurate records, supporting tax compliance, reconciling accounts, and organizing donor documentation. The Fellow will also play a key role in audit processes by ensuring timely delivery of financial documents and contributing to the integrity and efficiency of the institution’s financial systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process vendor and staff payments; ensure all payments are properly processed
- Ensure donor physical and online filing are well organized
- Reconcile bank statements, vendor and customer accounts
- Support tax compliance: filing VAT, withholding tax, and other statutory tax obligations
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure regulatory compliance
- Participate in audit processes through ensuring that audit sampled documents are delivered on time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 1-2 years of experience preferred (could be internship or in a small organisation)
- Proficiency with accounting software (Proficiency in QuickBooks is an advantage)
- Sound understanding of accounting principles and internal controls
- Strong organisational skills, accuracy, attention to detail
- Good communication skills (English required)
