Who We Are

At EarthEnable, we believe that our clients deserve our very best, that work should be fun, and that the best ideas could come from any part of the company. We celebrate each other’s wins, learn from our setbacks, and are deeply proud of the impact we make every day. We believe a home that doesn’t make you sick means more than living disease-free. It means pride and dignity in the place our customers most treasure: their homes. Being a part of our team means more than building housing products: it means building an organization and building a better future for rural families.

What We Do

EarthEnable is transforming the way people live, by making homes healthier for families across rural Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya. 80% of Rwandans live in homes with dirt floors which are dusty, unsanitary, and fertile breeding grounds for parasites and germs. While replacing a dirt floor with concrete has significant health benefits (e.g. reducing diarrhea by 50% and parasitic infections by 80%), concrete is unaffordable for many who need it, and is also responsible for 8% of global carbon emissions.  EarthEnable addresses this pressing and ubiquitous problem by selling high-quality, earthen housing products like our flagship floor that is 80% cheaper than concrete with 90% less embedded energy. Earthen floors, plasters, and blocks are composed of natural materials (gravel, clay, sand, and laterite) and sealed with a proprietary drying oil that makes them waterproof, strong, and polished. In our first 10 years of operations, EarthEnable has installed ~30,000 floors for ~200,000 individuals and created livelihoods for over 1,000 people. See our new product – a full house – here

About the role:

The Farm Manager holds end-to-end accountability for the production, operational performance, and commercial output of the Kagasa and Rubona farms. The role is responsible for planning, coordinating, monitoring, and continuously improving farm operations to ensure production targets, quality standards, and market delivery requirements are consistently achieved.

The Farm Manager serves as the primary liaison between the company and external greenhouse specialists, ensuring technical recommendations are effectively implemented while progressively developing in-house agronomic capability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production & Crop Performance

  • Own production outcomes across all 10 greenhouses at Kagasa and Rubona – yield, quality, harvest timing, and crop cycle planning.
  • Ensure the crop protection and spraying programme is implemented on schedule, without exception.
  • Run proactive pest and disease management: scouting schedules, early detection, IPM protocols, and rapid containment.
  • Ensure irrigation, fertigation, nutrition, pruning, trellising, and sanitation protocols are executed correctly at every site.
  • Develop weekly production forecasts and anticipate upcoming operational requirements.
  • Identify, address, and resolve operational challenges affecting farm productivity.

2. Commercial & Market

  • Establish and maintain relationships with buyers, offtakers, and market contacts.
  • Own the sale of produce from both farms, ensuring harvest volumes are matched to committed demand.
  • Translate production forecasts into a reliable sales pipeline; minimise post-harvest loss from unsold or mistimed volume.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms within agreed parameters, escalating material commercial decisions to leadership.

3. Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Directly manage the site agronomists at Kagasa and Rubona, along with all farm labourers.
  • Work alongside the agronomists in the field to supervise operations and provide technical support.
  • Assess current skill gaps and build a structured training plan; coach agronomists from task-executors into problem-solvers.
  • Set clear daily and weekly standards at each site, and hold the team to them.
  • Coordinate labour, logistics, and farm resources to ensure activities are executed on time.

4. Data, Systems & Reporting

  • Ensure daily farm data is captured accurately and consistently across all sites — activities, inputs, harvest, labour, incidents.
  • Monitor greenhouse sensor data (temperature, humidity, soil moisture, etc.) and act on anomalies rather than simply log them.
  • Prepare and submit a weekly management report covering:
    •  Farm progress and achievements against plan
    •   Outstanding issues requiring attention, with recommended action
    • Activities completed by each agronomist
    • Planned activities for the coming week
  • Flag material issues to leadership immediately rather than holding them for the weekly report.

5. Budget, Inventory & Compliance

  • Own budget vs. actual tracking for farm operations; explain variances and propose corrective action.
  • Manage stock and input inventories (seeds, fertilisers, chemicals, packaging, spares) — no stockouts, no unexplained shrinkage.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety and chemical-handling standards, and reporting requirements.

Requirements

Essential

  • 4–6 years in commercial agriculture, with direct hands-on experience in protected cultivation (greenhouse, net house, or tunnel). Agronomy experience is strongly preferred.
  • Has independently run a farm or production site, including accountability for crop outcomes.
  • Demonstrated competence in pest and disease management, crop protection programmes, irrigation/fertigation, and crop cycle planning.
  • Comfortable with data: can build and maintain trackers, work in spreadsheets, and interpret sensor readings.
  • Experience managing field teams, including training and performance management.
  • Willing and able to travel regularly between Kagasa and Rubona.
  • Degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.

2. Preferred

  • Experience selling fresh produce and managing buyer or offtaker relationships.
  • Experience working with or managing external technical consultants and vendors.
  • Exposure to budget ownership and variance reporting.
  • Familiarity with greenhouse climate control and sensor/monitoring systems.
  • Local language fluency and prior experience operating in Rwanda or the region.
  • Having a driving license, Category A
