About Africa Health Sciences University
Africa Health Sciences University (AHSU) is an accredited health sciences institution in Rwanda, dedicated to training the next generation of healthcare professionals in medicine, pharmacy, midwifery, nursing, laboratory technology, radiography, and other allied health fields.
The midwifery program launched in September 2024 with an inaugural cohort of 40 students from across Rwanda. Supported by a diverse faculty from Rwanda, South Africa, Zambia, and the US, the faculty brings a wealth of experience to mentor the future generation of midwives. This 4-year program equips aspiring midwives with the knowledge and skills to revolutionize maternal and newborn healthcare in Rwanda and beyond.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligible candidates should meet all of the following criteria:
- Hold an A-level/high school diploma obtained within the last two years.
- Have at least two principal passes (grades A or B): one in Biology, and the other in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or Geography from combinations, including PCB, MCB, or BCG (or equivalents).
- Foreign qualifications must have NESA equivalency (if applicable)
- Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral English.
Required Documents
Candidates must submit the following documents through the application form online. All documents must be in English or have notarized translations.
- Cover Letter, addressed to the admissions team, explaining your interest in the midwifery program.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Certified Academic Transcripts
- National Exam Scores or NESA equivalence for candidates with foreign diplomas. For equivalence, please visit the NESA website.
- Copy of Passport or National ID (for Rwandan citizens)
- Names and contact details of two referees (only academic and/or professional mentors).
Admissions Process
For consideration, submit your application online via this link with all required documents. Shortlisted candidates will take an entrance exam, followed by interviews for top performers. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
