Job Summary
The IP Core Network & Systems Trainee will support the core network and systems team in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of IP network infrastructure. This is a learning-focused role designed to provide hands-on exposure to core network technologies, systems integration, and operational processes under the guidance of experienced engineers.
The trainee will assist with day-to-day network activities, documentation, testing, and basic analysis while developing practical skills in IP core networking, automation, and service delivery. This role does not carry full ownership of projects but contributes to team deliverables as part of supervised assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the assessment of L2/L3 IP network designs, including routing, tunneling, and QoS concepts
- Assist with proof-of-concept testing and basic network design validation in a test lab environment
- Participate in capacity planning activities by collecting data and supporting analysis
- Support core network teams during customer connectivity surveys, installation, testing, and commissioning activities
- Assist in troubleshooting network issues remotely and on-site when required
- Support the development of basic technical solutions for core network services and customer networks
- Help identify configuration improvements in the customer-servicing infrastructure under guidance
- Assist in monitoring network and system performance and preparing tuning recommendations
- Support cross-functional teams by providing technical input and documentation
- Assist with the collection of network metrics and preparation of performance reports
- Participate in process improvement and standardization initiatives
- Develop and maintain network documentation such as diagrams, procedures, and standards
- Participate in discussions related to system and API integrations
- Support system integration activities and basic automation tasks using tools such as Python (where applicable)
- Assist in routine maintenance activities to support service stability
- Actively participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and team learning activities
- Support initiatives aimed at improving client experience and service quality
- Attend vendor or industry learning sessions when required
- Perform any other training-related tasks assigned by the Line Manager
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Timely submission of daily and weekly task updates for assigned activities
- Accurate and up-to-date preparation of network diagrams, procedures, and records
- Completion of assigned tasks within agreed timelines under supervision
- Effective participation in network monitoring, maintenance, and support activities
- Demonstrated improvement in technical knowledge and practical skills
- Contribution to maintaining service availability and customer connectivity activities
- Successful participation in assigned projects or improvement initiatives
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field (or final-year student)
Experience
- Entry-level or internship experience in IT or telecommunications is an added advantage
- Exposure to IP networking concepts through academic projects, labs, or internships
Technical Skills (Foundational Level)
- Basic understanding of IP networking concepts (BGP, MPLS, OSPF, IS-IS, VPNs, IPv6)
- Foundational knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, or Linux environments
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools is an advantage
- Basic programming or scripting knowledge (Python or similar) is a plus
- Introductory understanding of APIs and system integration concepts
Certifications (Advantageous, Not Mandatory)
- CCNA or equivalent entry-level certification
- Vendor or Linux fundamentals certifications
