Role Context

To deliver a best-in-class customs clearance service by ensuring all DHL Express shipments are cleared efficiently, accurately, and in full compliance with local customs regulations and DHL global standards. This role supports DHL’s commitment to speed, reliability, and customer excellence by minimizing clearance delays and enhancing the customer experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare, validate, and submit customs declarations in line with DHL procedures and local regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure all shipment documentation (commercial invoices, permits, licenses, etc.) is complete, accurate, and compliant.

  • Liaise proactively with customs authorities, brokers, and regulatory agencies to facilitate timely clearance.

  • Engage customers to obtain required clearance documents and provide proactive updates on shipment status.

  • Manage clearance exceptions, including holds, inspections, or discrepancies, and resolve them promptly.

  • Monitor shipments in DHL systems (e.g., CCS, EDI tools) to ensure timely release and delivery performance.

  • Adhere to DHL’s First Choice principles by delivering excellent customer service and resolving issues at first contact.

  • Support revenue protection by ensuring accurate declaration of duties, taxes, and service charges.

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with DHL audit and regulatory requirements.

  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying recurring clearance issues and suggesting process enhancements.

  • Strong understanding of customs regulations, HS classification, and international trade requirements

  • High attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, time-critical environment

  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking

  • Digital proficiency in DHL systems and Microsoft Office tools

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in customs clearance, logistics, or freight forwarding (preferably in Express industry)

  • Knowledge of local customs regulations and procedures in Rwanda is an advantage

  • Being in possession of Custom Clerence certification is an added advantage
