The College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) is one of the 7 Colleges that operate under the University of Rwanda. The College of Medicine currently has five schools namely: Dentistry, Health Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, Medicine and Pharmacy and School of Public Health. CMHS plays a central role in the social and economic development of the nation through training of medical doctors and Health professionals. It is in this regard that the College is looking for competent and qualified candidates for the positions captured in the table below:

I. School of Medicine and Pharmacy

1. Position: Assistant lecturers (5 Positions)

Department: Medical Biochemistry, molecular Biology and Genetics, Industrial Pharmacy, Primary Health Care

Job description: 

Teaching

  • Assist in preparation of subjects to be taught as presented in modules
  • Assist in teaching subjects in his/her area of specialization
  • Participate in the assessment and evaluation of students through continual assessment tests and examinations
  • Participate in organization of practices in classrooms, library and laboratories an d exams' invigilation.

Research

  • Assist in preparation of research proposals in line with his area of specialization and institutional thematic areas
  • Participate in research activities aiming at solving community problems
  • Publish research results at national, regional and international levels

Community Outreacb

  • Participate in dissemination of research findings to relevant stakeholders
  • Conduct research projects which may lead to PhD studies
  • Participate in organizing national scientific conferences

Consultancy

  • Conduct consultancy activities in his area of specialization
  • Compete  successfully for income generating consultancies

Relevant Qualifications

  • Having a Master in Biochemistry (1)
  • MSc in    Industrial Pharmacy (1)
  • MD, MBBS, MBchB plus MSc in a Public Health related field (3)
  • Have a good command of English (Oral and Written).
  • Be of the Rwandan nationality

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Relevant teaching experience in Higher Learning Institutions.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education or a validated Teaching Portfolio Certificate.

  • Copy of degree certificate, and if obtained outside Rwanda, a degree equivalence certificate issued by the Higher Education Council.

2. Position: Lecturers (5 Positions)

Department: Internal Medicine, Surgery department, Anesthesiology and Critical Care, Emergency Medicine and Critical Care ENT

Teaching

  • Prepare subjects to be taught as presented in modules
  • Teach subjects in his area of specialization
  • Evaluate    students through continual assessment tests and examinations

Research

  • Prepare research proposals in line with his area of specialization and institutional thematic areas
  • Attract internal and external funding for research
  • Conduct research activities aiming at solving community problems
  • Publish research results at national, regional and international levels
  • Supervise students Research projects

Community Outreach

  • Disseminate research findings to relevant stakeholders
  • Elaborate research-based policy briefs for policy makers
  • Involvement in organizing national scientific conferences and workshops

Consultancy

  • Conduct consultancy activities in his/her area of specialization
  • Compete successfully for income generating consultancies

Relevant Qualifications

  • Having a PhD of Master's degree with at least a second class upper division or at least 70% in Medicine is a requirement.
  • Having a good command of English (Oral and Written).
  • Be of the Rwandan nationality

Desirable Qualifications and Eaperience

  • A sub-specialty training in a one of the following specific fields is an added advantage:
    1. Psychiatry (1)
    2. Anesthesiology (1)
    3. Emergency Medicine and Critical Care (1)
    4. General Surgery (1)
    5. ENT (1)
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Relevant teaching experience in Higher Learning Institutions.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, or a validated Teaching Portfolio Certificate.

3. Position: Senior Lecturers (5 Positions)

Department: Anesthesiology and Critical Care, Surgery, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Orthopedic Surgery

Teaching

  • Prepare subjects to be taught as presented in modules
  • Teach subjects in his area of specialization
  • Evaluate students through continual assessment tests and examinations

Research

  • Prepare research proposals in line with his/her area of specialization and institutional thematic areas
  • Attract internal and external funding for research
  • Conduct research activities aiming at solving community problems
  • Publish research results at national, regional and international levels
  • Supervise/co-supervise PhD and Masters students and Postdoctoral fellows

Community Outreach

  • Disseminate research findings to relevant stakeholders
  • Elaborate research-based policy briefs for policy makers
  • Involvement in organizing national scientific conferences and workshops

Consultancy

  • Conduct consultancy activities in his/her area of specialization
  • Compete successfully for income generating consultancies and grants

Relevant Qualifications

  • Having a PhD or a Master's degree with at least a second class upper division or at least 70% in Medicine is a requirement.
  • Having at least 3 publications in a recognized peer-reviewed journal.
  • Having a good command of English (Oral and Written).
  • Be of the Rwandan nationality

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • A sub-specialty training in specific field is an added value:
    1. Dermatology (1)
    2. Anesthesiology (1)
    3. Neurosurgery (1)
    4. PhD in Clinical Psychology (1)
    5. Orthopedic  Surgery

II. School of Nursing and Midwifery

1. Position: Assistant Lecturer (1 Position)

Job Description

  • Support senior staff, lecturers, and clinicians with administrative tasks and the execution of research or clinical procedures.
  • Document and maintain detailed, systematic records of clinical activities, and student practical sessions.
  • Prepare and stage practical coursework, ensuring all necessary materials and instruments are ready for student use.
  • Assist students and faculty during laboratory and clinic sessions, providing technical guidance and supporting individual research projects.
  • Prepare, calibrate, and maintain laboratory and clinical instruments to ensure they remain in optimal working condition.
  • Manage the procurement and stocking of both consumable and non-consumable supplies; coordinate the efficient distribution of materials within the facility.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments for all laboratory and clinical activities to identify and neutralize potential hazards.
  • Enforce strict adherence to health and safety protocols among all users, ensuring a secure working environment
  • Manage the secure storage of chemicals and oversee the compliant disposal of clinical and laboratory waste products.

Job Specification

  • Master's degree with at least a second-class upper division or at least 70% in Medical Surgical Nursing Equivalence of the degree certificate in case the Degree was obtained from abroad (Outside Rwanda).
  • Have a good command of English (Oral and Written).
  • Have a valid license for clinical practice. Be of the Rwandan nationality

III. School of Dentistry

1. Position: Assistant Lecturers (3 Positions)

Job Description

  • Undertaking teaching, Clinical supervision and administrative duties as may be allocated by the Head of Department.
  • Undertake research including applicable research and/or knowledge transfer and/or continuing professional development.
  • Carrying out such related duties that may be allocated by the Head of Department/Dean/Principal

Job Specification

  • Bachelor of Dental surgery or equivalent with a distinction
  • Equivalence of the degree certificate in case the Degree was obtained from abroad (Outside Rwanda).
  • Have a good command of English (Oral and Written).
  • Have a valid license for clinical practice.
  • Be of the Rwandan nationality

IV. School of Public Health

1. Position: Assistant Lecturer (Dietetics/ Clinical Nutrition) (2 positions)

Job Description

  • Undertake teaching, student supervision, research, Clinical and field supervision, assessment, invigilating and other administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
  • Conduct research and publish scholarly work.
  • Participate in curriculum development and quality assurance.
  • Contribute to community service and professional development.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research grant proposals and implementation of funded projects.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Department, Dean, or Principal

Job Specification

  • Master's degree in Dietetics, Clinical Nutrition or Human Nutrition or other related fields with Background in of clinical related field Equivalence certificate for degrees obtained outside Rwanda (where applicable).
  • Have a valid license for clinical practice
  • Good command of English (oral and written)

V. School of Health Sciences

Position: Assistant Lecturer OR Tutorial Assistant (3 Positions)

Job Description

  • Undertaking teaching and related duties as may be allocated by the Head of Department.
  • Participate in continuous professional development.
  • Carrying out such related duties that may be allocated by the Head of Department/Dean/Principal

Job Specification

For Assistant Lecturer

  • Master's degree in Audiology OR Speech therapy and audiology Master's degree in Rehabilitation (or related) with a BSc in Audiology OR Speech Therapy and Audiology Equivalence of the degree certificate in case the Degree was obtained from abroad (Outside Rwanda).
  • Have a good command of English (Oral and Written).
  • Have a valid license for clinical practice where applicable. Be of the Rwandan nationality

For Tutorial Assistant

  • Bachelor's degree in Audiology OR Speech therapy and audiology Equivalence of the degree certificate in case the Degree was obtained from abroad (Outside Rwanda).
  • Have a good command of English (Oral and Written).
  • Have a valid license for clinical practice where applicable.
  • Be of the Rwandan nationality
