Mission/Core purpose of the Job
The Strategy and Business Operations Manager supports the SM, Strategy in translating the organisation’s strategy into clear priorities, coordinated initiatives and measurable business outcomes.
The role is responsible for strengthening the organisation’s strategic planning, performance management and operating rhythms. It works across business functions to monitor strategic priorities, coordinate cross-functional programmes, identify delivery risks and provide the analysis and insights required for executive decision-making.
The role also supports improvements in business processes, governance and organisational effectiveness, ensuring that strategic decisions are translated into action and delivered within agreed timelines
Key Performance Areas
- Support the development and periodic review of the organisation’s strategy and annual business plan.
- Translate strategic priorities into clear initiatives, milestones, performance measures and accountability structures.
- Coordinate the cascading of strategic objectives and KPIs across business functions.
- Conduct research, benchmarking and analysis to identify business risks, opportunities and emerging trends.
- Support the development of strategic options, business cases and recommendations for executive decision-making.
- Coordinate periodic reviews and facilitate adjustments based on business performance and changes in the operating environment.
Business performance management:
- Maintain enterprise performance dashboards, scorecards and reporting tools.
- Analyse business performance against strategic, operational and financial targets.
- Identify performance gaps, underlying causes and areas requiring management intervention.
- Work with business functions to develop and monitor corrective action plans.
- Support the annual target-setting process, ensuring alignment between enterprise priorities and functional objectives.
- Promote consistent performance-management practices across the organisation.
Strategic programme management:
- Coordinate high-priority programmes and special assignments sponsored by the CEO
- Develop project plans with clear objectives, deliverables, timelines, owners and expected outcomes.
- Establish appropriate governance, reporting and escalation mechanisms for strategic programmes.
- Convene project teams and facilitate regular progress and problem-solving sessions.
- Monitor project scope, resources, risks, dependencies and delivery milestones.
- Escalate significant risks or delays and coordinate the development of mitigation plans.
- Conduct post-implementation reviews to assess whether intended outcomes have been achieved.
Executive governance and decision support:
- Coordinate the preparation of reports, presentations and decision papers for executive governance forums.
- Work with business functions to ensure submissions are accurate, complete and delivered on time.
- Track decisions, commitments and actions arising from Executive Committee and strategic review meetings.
- Follow up with accountable owners to ensure actions are completed within agreed timelines.
- Maintain an integrated calendar of strategic planning cycles, performance reviews and major organisational milestones.
- Handle confidential and commercially sensitive information with discretion.
Stakeholder coordination:
- Develop effective working relationships with senior leaders, functional teams and project owners.
- Support communication of strategic priorities, executive decisions and organisational initiatives.
- Ensure stakeholders have clear visibility of expectations, responsibilities and delivery timelines.
Experience
- At least 3 years of experience coordinating complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience analyzing business performance and translating findings into practical recommendations.
- Previous experience working with senior executives and handling confidential information.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and performance or project-management tools.
Education Background
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, strategy, economics, finance, engineering, project management or a related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in business administration, strategy or a related field would be an advantage.
