Job Title: NDT LEVEL 2 Engineer

Reports to: NDT LEVEL 3 Engineer

Location: Kigali International Airport – Town Office

Job Purpose

To perform and certify Non-Destructive Testing inspections to Level 2 competency in support of RwandAir’s line maintenance, base maintenance, outstation operations, workshops and third-party maintenance activities. The role ensures structural and component integrity of aircraft and related equipment through accurate inspection, interpretation, and reporting in accordance with approved manuals, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Reporting to the NDT Level 3 Engineer, the NDT Level 2 provides timely NDT support across RwandAir business to ensure regulatory, technical requirements and safety compliance, contributing to improved aircraft availability, reduced component cycle cost and development of other staff for airline sustainability.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational

• Exercising the license/approval in relation to the accomplishment of scheduled, unscheduled inspections of aircraft and aircraft components and to ensure inspection is accomplished to the required standards. The recording and issue of Certificates of Release to Service for the work accomplished in accordance with current procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Conducting inspection activities utilizing the required detection systems approved by the OEM as documented in the approved technical data.
• Ensure that completed inspection components are correctly handled, labelled, blanked and routed with relevant documents in a timely manner
• Planning and coordinating the accomplishment of allocated NDT inspection activities.

• Prepare reports for inspections conducted and records all the NDT inspections conducted on appropriate checklists
• Ensuring availability of equipment, tools and technical data required for the conduct of NDT inspection.
• Ensures that all tools, equipment and accessories under the custody of NDT shop are are serviceable and calibrated as per requirements.
• Any discrepancies, deteriorations or equipment failure shall be reported as per procedure
• Carry out periodic quality check of Dye Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Inspection equipment, material and processes.
• Carry out periodic quality check of Ultrasonic Inspection transducers and equipment.
• Reviews inspection procedures to ensure that they remain current and consistent with the regulatory requirements
• Reporting safety hazards and occurrences;
• Responding to audits conducted by internal and external parties including the application of the required corrective actions for the nonconformities raised during the audit
• Ensuring clean and orderly working environment
• Maintain held NDT qualifications valid and ensure that the mandatory annual eye-sight test is carried out at specified time.
• Ensure timely renewal of the authorisation prior to the expiry.

• Establish the teams objectives and priorities to align with and support business objectives.
• Oversee and supervise level 1 specialists and trainees and direct daily activities.
• Train and develop other employees, to ensure succession planning is in place.

About You – Minimum Standard Qualifications & Experience;

Essential

• Have at least 5 years’ experience in aviation/NDT or workshops maintenance
• Have an engineering degree or diploma in any of the following disciplines: aeronautical, avionics, mechanical, electrical or electronics;
• Have experience in aircraft/component maintenance or NDT inspection
• Holder of minimum level 2 NDT Methods Qualification, proven track record in the field of Line, Base and Workshop maintenance environment.
• Have at least one of the following qualifications:
  1. Hold, or have held, NDT approval on one method
  2. Holding NDT EN4179 or PCN (Aerospace) qualification of the inspection Methods (PT, MT, UT, ET, RT or TT)
  3. Have passed the qualification exam and have the minimum hours required
