Mission/Core purpose of the Job
- Responsible for designing, defining and governing the information security architecture across MTN Rwanda’s network, IT, application, data and cloud landscape, ensuring security is embedded by design into all solutions, infrastructure and digital services.
- Acts as the technical design authority on information security, translating business, threat and regulatory requirements into robust, scalable reference architectures, security standards, patterns and controls that protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information assets.
- Reviews and guides solution and infrastructure designs for secure-by-design compliance, aligns local architecture with MTN Group security policies and frameworks, and drives continuous improvement of the organisation’s security posture against an evolving cyber-threat landscape, in line with the MTN R way of working.
Key Performance Areas
- Security Architecture Strategy & Roadmap: Define and maintain the information security architecture strategy, roadmap and target-state designs aligned to business strategy, MTN Group security frameworks and the evolving threat landscape.
- Reference Architectures, Patterns & Standards: Develop, maintain and govern security reference architectures, design patterns, blueprints and technical security standards for consistent reuse across the organisation.
- Secure-by-Design Solution Reviews: Review solution, application and infrastructure architectures for security; provide secure-by-design guidance, risk-based recommendations and architecture sign-off within mandate.
- Network & Infrastructure Security Architecture: Design and govern network, perimeter and infrastructure security, including segmentation, firewalls, IPS/IDS, secure remote access, micro-segmentation and zero-trust principles.
- Application & API Security Architecture: Define secure design standards for applications, microservices and APIs, embedding security into the SDLC and DevSecOps pipelines.
- Cloud Security Architecture: Design and assure security for public, private and hybrid cloud environments, including landing zones, configuration baselines and cloud-native controls.
- Identity & Access Management (IAM) Architecture: Architect IAM, privileged access (PAM) and authentication/authorisation models, including SSO, MFA and least-privilege design.
- Data Protection & Cryptography Architecture: Define data-protection, encryption, key-management/PKI and data-loss-prevention architectures in line with data classification and privacy requirements.
- Threat Modelling & Risk Assessment: Conduct threat modelling, security risk assessments and architecture risk reviews; recommend mitigating controls and track remediation.
- Security Controls & Tooling Design: Design and optimise security controls and tooling (SIEM, SOC, EDR/XDR, DLP, vulnerability management, WAF) and their integration into the architecture.
- Zero Trust & Defence-in-Depth: Drive adoption of zero-trust and defence-in-depth principles across the technology and information estate.
- Regulatory & Standards Compliance: Ensure architectures comply with ISO 27001, NIST, PCI-DSS, Rwanda data-protection law and MTN Group security policies; support audits and certifications.
- Security Architecture Governance & Assurance: Participate in architecture review boards and change governance; ensure designs are documented, approved, assured and audit ready.
- Emerging Technology & Threat Evaluation: Evaluate emerging technologies, threats and security solutions; advise on adoption, proofs-of-concept and architectural impact.
- Technical Advisory & Thought Leadership: Act as trusted security-architecture advisor to projects, enterprise architecture and engineering teams; provide expert guidance and mentoring.
- Incident & Vulnerability Architectural Support: Provide architectural input into major incident response, vulnerability remediation and post-incident hardening.
- Documentation & Knowledge Management: Maintain security architecture artefacts, standards, patterns and knowledge articles; promote knowledge sharing and capability uplift.
- Stakeholder, Vendor & Project Coordination: Coordinate with vendors, partners and project teams to ensure security requirements and designs are correctly implemented, tested and assured
Experience
- 5+ years in information/cyber security, with at least 3 years in security architecture and design.
- Experience designing security across network, application, cloud, IAM and data-protection domains.
- Familiarity with security frameworks and standards (ISO 27001, NIST CSF, SABSA, TOGAF, PCI-DSS, MITRE ATT&CK).
- Exposure to telecom, fintech or MoMo environments and to DevSecOps and cloud platforms is an advantage.
Education Background
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Information Security, Engineering or related field. Fluent in English.
- Security architecture/security certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISSP-ISSAP, SABSA, TOGAF, CCSP, CISM, CEH) are an advantage; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
