BANCASSURANCE OPERATIONS MANAGER

Job Purpose

To oversee and manage the end-to-end bancassurance operations within the bank, ensuring efficient policy administration, claims coordination, compliance, revenue growth, and strong insurer relationships while delivering excellent customer experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Head of Bancassurance for Equity Bank Rwanda Insurance Agency
  • Overseeing underwriting and claims operations for Equity Bancassurance Agency
  • Develop and implement bancassurance operational strategies aligned with bank objectives
  • Drive growth in insurance premium production and commissions fee-based income
  • Monitor product performance and recommend improvements.
  • Support product development and innovation in collaboration with insurance partners.
  • Manage day-to-day bancassurance operations including, Policy issuance, Premium
  • Reconciliation, Claims administration and Commission tracking and reporting.

  • Ensure turnaround time (TAT) compliance for policy processing and claims settlement
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls within bancassurance processes
  • Oversee insurance claims processing and follow up with insurers
  • Ensure timely settlement of claims to maintain customer trust
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (Central bank and insurance regulatory • authority guidelines).
  • Monitor adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) with insurers
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation measures
  • Ensure proper documentation and audit readiness
  • Monitor premium collection and remittance to insurance partners
  • Reconcile insurer statements and commissions.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly performance reports.
  • Train bank staff including branches and relationship managers on insurance products and
  • processes.
  • Track revenue targets and profitability.
  • Renewals follow-up as per agreed standards.
  • Ensure that files are well documented and all communications transactions.
  • Ensuring internal compliance to the Bank’s policies and Procedures
  • Promoting the Bank’s corporate image
  • Ensuring that all queries from customers are addressed promptly while providing technical guidance.
  • Willing to perform any other reasonable and lawful duties assigned by Supervisor

Experience, Qualifications Skills and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Business Administration, legal or related field.
  • Professional qualification in Insurance (e.g CII, Diploma in Insurance) is an added advantage.
  • 4 years’ experience in insurance or bancassurance operations.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products (life and non-life).
  • Knowledge of regulatory framework governing bancassurance
  • High level of integrity and initiative personable with excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of Bank risks and their mitigation
  • Strong computer skills (Familiar with Excel)

  • Must be able to work under minimum supervision and be highly proactive
  • Self-drive, high personal performance standards and an adversity against under-performance
  • Intellectual curiosity and flexibility paired with fast, structural thinking capability
  • Strong analytical skills to continuously identify and implement new opportunities
  • Strong problem-solving skills with and ability to comprehend and simplify complex information
  • Must be commercially aware with a passion for customer service and delivery within very strict timelines.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise, possessing a high level of resilience against pressure.
  • Proven ability to articulate (verbal / writing / presentation) complex processes and tasks in a structured, easy to digest manner.
