Job Title: Investment Associate

Administrative Unit: Office of the Chief Strategy Officer

Report to: Chief Strategy Officer

Tasks

Investment Arm and Fund Development

  • Support the design and operationalization of the Investment Arm and its priority funds and investment vehicles.
  • Analyse target sectors, financing gaps, fund size, ticket sizes, instrument mix, capital structure, and investor appetite.
  • Translate fund design recommendations into practical investment policies, criteria, governance processes, and operating tools.
  • Coordinate inputs from internal teams, advisors, prospective fund managers, and partners.

Fundraising and Investor Engagement

  • Support fundraising strategies and preparations for first close and subsequent capital mobilization milestones.
  • Prepare investor mapping, pitch materials, fund summaries, pipeline materials, financial models, and data-room documents.
  • Coordinate investor due diligence requests, engagement follow-up, and commitment tracking.
  • Translate investor feedback into implications for fund design, capital structure, and pipeline development.

Investment Arm Pipeline Origination and Market Development

  • Build and maintain a pipeline of credible opportunities across eligible green economy sectors.
  • Engage companies, project developers, financial institutions, accelerators, public entities, and ecosystem partners to source opportunities.
  • Screen opportunities against fund mandates, commercial potential, scalability, management capacity, impact, and investment readiness.
  • Maintain clear stage gates, readiness gaps, preparation needs, and next actions for each opportunity.

Ireme Invest Pipeline Selection and Graduation Pathway

  • Strengthen Ireme Invest pipeline and selection criteria to identify businesses with scalability, governance, market traction, and future equity potential.
  • Support the design of calls, funding windows, application tools, and assessment frameworks that build a stronger future Investment Arm pipeline.
  • Provide pre-investment analysis of selected Ireme applicants, focusing on growth potential, capital needs, and milestones required for future investment readiness.
  • Develop graduation criteria and referral processes for beneficiaries that may later qualify for Investment Arm financing.
  • Assess enterprises referred by the Ireme portfolio team for inclusion in the Investment Arm pipeline, using portfolio insights to improve future selection.

Investment Analysis, Due Diligence, and Transaction Support

  • Conduct financial and commercial analysis of Investment Arm opportunities and graduation candidates.
  • Develop financial models, valuations, sensitivity analyses, and transaction scenarios to support investment decisions.
  • Coordinate legal, financial, commercial, ESG, safeguards, and impact due diligence and prepare investment recommendations.
  • Support preparation of investment memoranda, term sheets, negotiations, approvals, and transaction execution.

Investment Governance, Systems, and Reporting

  • Support Investment Committee and other governance processes, including decision materials, records, and action tracking.
  • Maintain Investment Arm pipeline, fundraising, fund-readiness, transaction, and data-room systems.
  • Prepare concise management updates and strengthen investment workflows, documentation, and institutional continuity.

Job Specifications/Profile

Relevant Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Investment Management, Development Finance, Engineering, Public Policy, or another relevant field is required.
  • A relevant master's degree and/or progress toward CFA or an equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.

Required Experience                       

At least three years of relevant experience in investment analysis, private equity, venture capital, financial advisory, fund management, or development finance.

  • Demonstrated experience in financial modelling, valuation, due diligence, investment structuring, and investment recommendation preparation.
  • Experience in investment origination, pipeline development, company screening, or investment-readiness assessment is required.
  • Exposure to fund setup, fundraising, investor engagement, fund manager selection, or investment platform development is an advantage.

Required Competencies

  • Strong financial modelling, valuation, investment analysis, due diligence, and transaction structuring skills.
  • Understanding of investment instruments, fund structures, fundraising, and investor engagement.
  • Ability to assess business opportunities, investment readiness, and market potential.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • High attention to detail, integrity, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Knowledge of Rwanda's private sector, green economy, and climate finance is an added advantage.
