Location: Kigali, Rwanda

Reports to: Finance Manager

ABOUT SOLID’AFRICA

Operating in Rwanda since 2010, Solid’Africa is a pioneering social enterprise dedicated to combating nutrition insecurity in Rwanda and beyond. With a mission to ensure universal access to adequate and appropriate nutrition. Solid’Africa delivers a comprehensive nutrition access program that includes the Gemura Feeding Program, which supplies nutritious meals to hospital patients and school children; the Sustainable Agriculture Program, which supports local farmers and strengthens the food supply chain; and the Nutrition Education Program, which promotes healthy dietary choices through education and awareness.

Through its Community Benefit Company (CBC), Solid’Africa also generates income to subsidize its nonprofit initiatives, ensuring financial sustainability. Additionally, Solid’Africa’s Institute of Culinary Arts and Nutrition (ICAN) provides specialized training that blends nutrition science and culinary arts to empower hospitality professionals. By leveraging strategic collaborations, adopting a holistic Farm-to-Fork model, and focusing on sustainable practices, Solid’Africa aims to transform the nutrition landscape, making healthy meals universally accessible in the communities it serves.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant at Solid Africa plays a crucial role in the financial operations of the organization. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the effective and efficient management of organization funds, ensure timely payments, and maintain strict compliance with financial regulations, overseeing organization’s inventory and fixed assets. The Senior Accountant will also ensure that receivables and payables are accurately reconciled and reported.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management:

  • Oversee and process payments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Responsible for effecting general accounting including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules and ledgers account and bank reconciliations
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports as needed by the Finance Manager or other senior management
  • Manage accounts payable, ensuring all invoices are paid on time and accurately recorded.
  • Reconcile all receivables and payables accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Reconciliation:

  • Post all transactions accurately and in a timely manner monthly
  • Regularly reconcile all records to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in all accounts promptly.
  • Provide reports after reconciliation with the Finance Manager.

Inventory and Asset Management:

  • Conduct regular inventory audits to ensure accuracy and integrity of stock levels.
  • Monitor and report on inventory levels, identifying any discrepancies and taking corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely ordering and restocking of inventory.
  • Participate in periodic inventory counts and reconcile any discrepancies

  • Maintain an up-to-date asset register, and schedule, including details of acquisition, location, condition, and disposal of all fixed assets.
  • Conduct regular physical verification of assets to ensure accuracy of the asset register.
  • Implement procedures for the tagging, tracking, and disposal of assets in accordance with company policies.
  • Work with the Finance Manager to manage depreciation schedules and asset-related financial reporting.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on inventory levels, asset utilization, and associated costs.
  • Analyze inventory and asset data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Provide recommendations to management on improving inventory and asset management processes

Taxes Management:

  • Calculate, prepare, and file all taxes in compliance with local tax laws and regulations.
  • Ensure accurate deduction of all taxes in each payment from payments to contractors, and other service providers.
  • Monitor, reconcile and manage input VAT claims and output VAT liabilities to ensure accurate reporting and VAT returns.
  • Prepare and submit all necessary tax documentation and reports to tax authorities within required deadlines.

Support to Finance Manager:

  • Prepare weekly cash flow projection and provide regular updates on financial status and operations to the Finance Manager.
  • Assist in the development of financial strategies and budgeting processes.
  • Collaboration with the Finance Manager on financial planning, analysis and reporting
  • Provide support during tax audits, ensuring all documentation and records are accurate and up to date.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWELDGE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA/ACCA qualification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, with nonprofit organization will be preferred
  • Knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls with non-profit Organization
  • Proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks
  • Organizational and time management skills
