SENIOR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

Job Summary

The Senior System Administrator is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, management, and security of the bank’s server infrastructure. This role requires a proactive approach to maintaining server performance, availability, and security, ensuring that the bank’s critical systems are reliable and eciently support daily operations. The Senior System Administrator will also lead projects and collaborate with various departments to implement and maintain IT solutions in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

System Architecture and Planning:

  • Design and implement scalable server and storage solutions that align with the bank's operational and strategic goals.
  • Develop and document system architecture and roadmaps, recommending upgrades and new technologies as needed.
  • Perform capacity planning and performance tuning to optimize server performance and ensure sucient resources for future growth.

System Maintenance and Monitoring:

  • Manage, congure, and maintain servers (Windows, Linux, and Unix systems) and virtual environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Establish and monitor automated alerts and notications for proactive system management.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including updates, patches, and backups, to maintain system health and security.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce security policies, user access controls, and data protection measures to secure sensitive bank information.
  • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and apply security patches as part of the bank’s compliance requirements (e.g., PCI DSS, ISO 27001).
  • Collaborate with IT security teams to ensure systems are congured according to best practices for data protection and regulatory compliance.

Incident Management and Troubleshooting:

  • Act as the top-level escalation point for system-related issues, providing advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Lead incident response and recovery processes, including disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity planning (BCP) for critical systems.
  • Document solutions, create knowledge base articles, and maintain detailed records of incidents and resolutions.

Backup and Disaster Recovery:

  • Develop, implement, and test backup and recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Maintain DR environments and regularly test backup/restoration processes to meet recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO).
  • Ensure osite backups and DR plans comply with regulatory requirements and best practices.

Project Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Lead and manage IT infrastructure projects, including new system deployments, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external vendors to support technology initiatives and integrate systems eectively.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior administrators, ensuring consistent adherence to procedures and standards.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate documentation of system congurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, usage trends, and incident history for management review.
  • Ensure records are kept up to date for audit purposes and regulatory compliance.

Qualification, Experience, Skills and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in system administration, with at least 2 years in a senior, preferably in the banking or nancial services sector.
  • Extensive experience managing server infrastructure, virtualization, and storage environments.
  • Microsoft Certied Solutions Expert (MCSE), Red Hat Certied Engineer (RHCE), VMware Certied Professional (VCP), CompTIA Security+, or other relevant certications preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows and Linux/Unix server environments.
  • Expertise with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault).
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and email systems (e.g., Exchange, Office 365).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and system management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent in communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a high-stakes environment. Work Environment:
  • Primarily oce-based, with occasional travel to other branches or data centers as needed.
  • On-call availability may be required to address critical system incidents or planned maintenance outside regular hours.
