MAINTENANCE OFFICER (1 position)

The Maintenance Officer reports to the Site Manager or Deputy Site Manager (Rotation)
Job summary / Overview
The Maintenance Officer is responsible for overseeing and managing the maintenance operations on the drilling site, ensuring all equipment and machinery are in optimal working condition. S/he plans, schedules, and supervises maintenance activities, coordinating technicians and engineers to address repairs, preventive maintenance, and inspections. The maintenance officer ensures compliance with safety standards, maintains accurate records of maintenance tasks, and works closely with drilling teams to minimize downtime and maximize equipment efficiency. S/he is also responsible for managing inventory, ordering parts, and ensuring timely and cost-effective maintenance solutions.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Maintenance Planning and Scheduling
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for drilling equipment and machinery.
- Prioritize maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
Supervision and Coordination
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of maintenance technicians and other staff.
- Ensure maintenance work is performed according to company standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Troubleshooting and Repairs
- Oversee the diagnosis of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in drilling equipment.
- Coordinate or perform repairs as needed, ensuring quick resolution to avoid operational delays.
Preventive Maintenance
- Implement and oversee preventive maintenance programs to extend the life of equipment.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for upgrades or improvements.
Inventory and Parts Management
- Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment.
- Order and track necessary parts to ensure timely availability and minimize downtime.
Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and repair history.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on maintenance status, costs, and equipment conditions to management.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments for maintenance operations.
Collaboration with Teams
- Work closely with drilling, operations, and safety teams to ensure effective coordination of maintenance activities.
- Assist in troubleshooting complex issues and providing technical support as needed.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvement in maintenance workflows.
- Recommend new tools, techniques, or technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Required Education, Work experience, Qualities and Skills
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Oil & Gas/Drilling Operations, Automation/Controls Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance, mechanical or electrical troubleshooting, specifically in drilling, oil & gas, or mining environments, having supervisory or coordination experience in maintenance management in drilling sites, managing teams, and coordinating maintenance tasks and schedules.
- Experience with drilling rigs, heavy machinery, and maintenance of specialized drilling equipment.
- Certification in maintenance management, such as CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) or equivalent (preferred).
- Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) or similar software.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory compliance in drilling and heavy equipment maintenance.
- Ability to work under pressure and coordinate with drilling, operations, and safety teams effectively.
