We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Packaging Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Plant Manager for our Soft Drink Plant, Supply Chain, you will oversee the development and execution of packaging strategies that align with our brand values and operational goals.
In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our products not only look exceptional but also meet the highest quality and compliance standards.
JOB PURPOSE
Ensure effective running of the packaging, utilities, and syrup plant operations, by empowering people, creating autonomous shopfloor teams. Create a an inducive working environment where people feel empowered and capable to operate, sustain and improve production processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
SAFETY, FOOD SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY
- Raise safety awareness through developing a safety leadership, risk-reduction, and continuous improvement mindset.
- Lead safety culture through safety role modelling, demonstrating ownership of safety management and extending collaboration with external parties and learning from their good practices.
- Create an environmentally oriented organization through continuous improvement and reinforcement of the relevant behaviours and mindset.
- Systematically drive the environmental sustainability agenda by stimulating the right culture and acting as a role model.
QUALITY OF THE PROCESS AND PRODUCT
- Prevents quality issues by initiating technological improvements and interacts with internal and external parties/stakeholders. Makes preventive measures before launching new products (quality risk assessments).
- Ensure compliance with HEINEKEN and local quality standards and procedures, reducing quality-related risks and losses at the production unit.
- Improve quality by driving continuous improvement and process control.
- Lead excellent quality performance, applying condition management to achieve autonomous quality control.
TPM AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Ensures continuous improvement (TPM) in the execution of activities to optimize the output, eradicating waste and losses while unlocking full potential of employees.
PROCESS MANAGEMENT & CONDITION MANAGEMENT
- Assures compliance with all the packaging process requirements in line with the Heineken Rules, Standards and Procedures.
- Continuously seek improvement and simplification of processes to accelerate the results of the production process and exceed targets.
- Anticipate and adapt the packaging process and related activities to meet the requirements of business transformation and innovation.
EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT - EQUIPMENT OPERATION & CONTROL
- Aligns AM and PM activities to drive departmental performance.
ORGANIZATION AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
- Develops training materials and provides training and coaching sessions to the subordinates and other.
- Mobilizes other departments/functions to deliver synergies in financial performance.
- Ensure the people and organization development processes are well embedded and contribute to their continuous improvement.
- Anticipate and adapt the people and organization development practices within their own area of responsibility, to meet the requirements of business transformation and innovation.
MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION AND REPORTING
- Ensure the application of relevant global tools is well-embedded and aligns with local use cases and digital initiatives
PLANNING AND EXECUTION
- Leads multidisciplinary projects with different stakeholders. Makes effective cooperation with the suppliers. Supports innovation process.
- Drive for autonomous execution of activities on the shop floor and for operational excellence and a data-driven mindset.
- Contributes to the vision and strategy within OpCo/Brewery setting and mobilizes and directs the organization towards the vision and strategy.
- Drives department plans to support delivery of OpCo supply chain strategy and proactively shares good practices.
- Optimize financial performance and impact when making operational decisions to meet business requirements.
- Collaborate with other parts of the business to achieve synergies and drive financial performance.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field
- 3-5 years Manufacturing, Engineering, Maintenance, or beverage technological, process industry technical experience.
- Strong preference for experience in: Packaging / Maintenance / Manufacturing operations / Engineering / Utilities/ FMCG production management.
- Knows and understands the core processes within the plant to ease and enable collaboration,
- People management, organization, development, and leadership, winning though people,
- Fluent in English and Kinyarwanda (both verbal and written),
- Digital Literacy, knowledge of industrial Internet of Things,
- Working knowledge of MS Office packages notably Excel & Power Point and Power Tools,
- Good presentation skills and data analysis, loss deployment and reporting accurately,
- Learning agility, team player, open minded, self-driven, dynamic and critical thinker,
- Familiar with quality management systems and SC operational standards
- TPM / Lean manufacturing / 6 Sigma with forward looking attribute.
