Position Description For: Teacher – Nursery Position
Reports To: Director of Studies – Nursery
General Position Description:
- Teachers are responsible for educating students and working with administration when issues arise with students.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Study and be knowledgeable of the curriculum and scheme for each academic year.
- Create daily lesson plans for each class; prepare for each class in advance.
- Lead daily lesson plans, teach the intended subject matter and answer questions.
- Participate in teacher training sessions; stay up to date with current teaching methods and practices, and obtain new knowledge in the teacher’s field.
- Attend conferences and workshops in order to further advance professional development.
- Prepare subject workbooks as necessary; make effective use of workbooks in teaching and learning activities.
- Track students’ progress and report it appropriately.
- Maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment to optimize student capabilities and develop their love of learning.
- Prepare lesson materials, grade homework and exams, manage the classroom.
- Evaluate students’ performance and provide feedback to students and families as well as school administration.
- Exercise open and respectful communication with co-workers, supervisors, families, and staff.
- Assess performance progress and academic accomplishments of students on a regular basis; provide reports to inform parents and administration.
- Keep records on attendance, accidents, incidents, and other events in accordance with school policies.
- Manage students’ behavior in accordance with school policies and guidelines.
- Provide a safe, thriving and respectful environment for all students on the campus.
- Cultivate a hunger for knowledge among students while engaging them to learn.
- Encourage curiosity and continued improvement among students.
- Help set goals for students, both individually and collectively, and work with them to attain the goals.
- Maintain an organized and orderly classroom which promotes creativity and learning.
- Request materials as needed for classroom instructional use.
- Ensure students are participating in class activities.
- Assign work to students by means of in-class worksheets, projects, homework, presentations, reports, etc.
- Maintain grading records/books and submit them to administration at the end of each term.
- Help students individually as needed.
- Enforce rules, policies and procedures in accordance with the Employee Handbook and other communications.
- Participate in events organized by the school INCLUDING CHAPEL SERVICES.
- Respond to requests and address assigned tasks with urgency, reporting back on progress.
- Work with the Families Department on any issues with students or families.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess:
- A2 Certificate in Early Childhood Education, Nursery Education, Teacher Training, or a related education field from a recognized institution.
- Relevant pedagogical/teacher training for nursery or early childhood education.
- Understanding of child development and play-based learning.
- Ability to plan and deliver age-appropriate learning activities.
- Good communication and classroom-management skills.
- Commitment to working in a Christian, child-centered school environment.
- Previous experience teaching nursery/pre-primary learners.
- Training or experience in inclusive education, child protection, or special educational needs.
- Experience working with a competency-based or play-based curriculum.
Professional Experience Applicants should have:

- Minimum of 2 years of professional teaching experience, preferably in a nursery, preprimary, or early childhood education setting.
- Experience working with young children and supporting their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
- Experience planning and delivering age-appropriate, play-based learning activities.
- Experience maintaining a safe, positive, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Experience communicating effectively with parents, colleagues, and school leadership.
- Experience in a Christian school or faith-based environment is an added advantage

- Ability to observe and identify children's learning, developmental, and behavioral needs.

- Good organization, time management, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to use basic technology and digital tools to support teaching and learning.
- Commitment to child safeguarding, protection, and professional ethics.
- Ability to demonstrate and support Christian values and Biblical principles in teaching and interactions.
- Creativity, flexibility, and a positive attitude toward working with young children.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all matters concerning students and families.
